A post on the recent "Questions about hypnotherapy" topic mentioned avoiding online training, but since I live 400 miles from the nearest schools around San Francisco, I've been considering distance learning - plus doing seminars later for hands-on experience. I have spoken with many schools of all varieties, and would prefer attending classes, but know how difficult commuting would be, even for mutiple-day intensives. Thanks for your replies.

Re: choosing a training: online? schools? apprenticing?
Fri, June 23, 2006 - 9:55 PMDiana,
If you go to www.hypnosis.edu/distance/foundations
you will see that the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI) is
currently offering their 101 course for free, without any
obligation.
As someone who went to their residence school, would I
say that the in-person route is preferable? Yes. You get
fellow students to practice on, instead of asking your
friends (though that was fun too, in the end :-)
But the advantage to the DVD-based learning is that when
it's all said and done, you have a DVD Library as a reference
tool when you need to review something . . . all I've got is a
bunch of notes that I wrote down! So that's good.
Anyway, the free course is open until July 1st. And please
know that I don't get any referrals or kickbacks from the
school. I just teach on the faculty there, and firmly believe
that it is a really comprehensive and professional course.
Much peace,
Brennan

Re: choosing a training: online? schools? apprenticing?
Fri, September 28, 2007 - 10:16 PMHMI Yes!! I took the free training, after I became an advanced student & the training is superb. The staff is always there. They assign you a tutor. You also have to do 200 hrs of "supervised" intership as you were. The training is quality. The free training or the foundations course is free. It is a bit "vintage" but it allows you see if the type of training is for you. If you have hi speed you should be able to do the training ok. I recommend it highly. Enjoy. the price is right.
